Manufacturing Process:
The manufacturing of good quality honey starts from the bee yard. The bee should be produced in the separate honey super, and not in combs used for rearing brood is filtered. It also darkens the honey. Quality honey is determined by the moisture content. The optimum humidity is about 60% for maintaining a 17.8% moisture content in honey. The processed honey filtered under pressure. You should take special concern about the storage space for honey, the place you store should be dry.
Honey Beekeeping-Indian Scenario:

- Like dairying, apiculture is also practiced mostly by marginal and landless farmers
- It also supplements the income from agriculture, generates employment and helps in improving the nutritional intake of the rural population. It provides employment to about 3 lakhs, rural people.
- Honeybees are vital in sustaining plant bio-diversity and improves yields of crops by cross-pollination. This increase has been shown to be in the range of 5 to 3000 % depending upon the type of crop.
- Types include Rapeseed / Mustard Honey, Eucalyptus Honey, Lychee Honey, sunflower honey, Karanj/Pongamea Honey, Multi-floraHimalayan Honey, Acacia Honey, Wild FloraHoney, Multi, and Monofloral Honey are some of the brand names of Natural Honey.
- More than 50 % of the honey produced, or 75-85% of apiary honey is being exported now.
- Just 4 States- West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Bihar contributed about 61% to the country’s honey production.
- Based on the potential of producing the states categorized under ‘High Potential’ are Punjab, WB, Bihar, Kerala, Karnataka, UP, TN & Uttarakhand
- The National Commission on Agriculture had visualized the need for deploying about 150 million Bee colonies for pollinating 12 major agricultural crops in the country.
- At present, up to 600 to 700 million Bee colonies are used for honey making, which will provide employment to 215 lakh persons and produce 10 million tonnes of honey and an increase in crop production.

Export Market for Honey:
India is one of the major exporters of honey. Major destinations included the USA, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Morocco, Bangladesh, Canada, etc.
Beekeeping as the livelihood in India:
- This can be the best option for unemployed youth they can start this business unit at minimal funds (Rs. 1.00 to 2.00 lakhs);
- Generates 3.75 lakhs man-days to maintain 10,000 Bee colonies in Beehives;
- 100 honey bees can produce income of around Rs. 2.50-3.00 lakhs per annum;
