Cost incurred towards construction of rooms in Mushroom farming
If we construct 2 rooms with a size of 10 X 10 feet we need to spend around Rs. 30, 000 to purchase all materials required for the construction of rooms like cement, iron, etc. and labor cost was also included in this cost.
Cost of racks in mushroom unit
To purchase the racks of 6 X ½ X 6 size one should incur near around Rs. 5, 000 as the cost of each is Rs.500.
Drums cost
We need at least one drum in the production unit it may cost up to Rs. 500 to purchase one drum.

Sand cost for mushroom production
To purchase sand along with its transportation charges cost of it may extend up to Rs. 1, 000.
Cost of boiling vessel
We require a vessel to boil the grass. So, to buy this boiling vessel farmers need to spend Rs. 500.

Hay is necessary to grow the mushrooms. Around 500-kilo grams of is needed. The cost of a one-kilogram of hay is Rs. 02. So, to purchase a total of 500 kilograms of hay farmer require Rs.1000.
Polythene bags cost
In mushroom cultivation, poly bags are used to fill the spawn. So, around 500 polythene bags are enough. Hence, to purchase 500 polybags it costs Rs. 100.
Cost of spawn
The cost of a one-kilogram of spawn is Rs.50. On an averagely 80 kilograms of spawn is enough. Then money spent towards this spawn procurement will be Rs. 4000.
Chemicals cost
We do not require any chemicals in mushroom cultivation. But, rarely we need to use the chemicals whenever it is needed which may cost around Rs. 200.
Cost of labor, electricity, and irrigation
One should need to incur around Rs. 2000 towards all these activities in mushroom cultivation.
Miscellaneous costs incurred in mushroom production unit
In mushrooms cultivation, miscellaneous costs may extend up to Rs. 200.
Yield from small scale Mushroom farming
On an average the mushroom farmer can harvest 500-kilo grams of mushrooms in each crop.

Total cost incurred in oyster Mushroom cultivation
It includes total cost incurred towards construction of rooms and money spent towards purchasing different materials which can be used in permanent along with production cost. On average we can take 9 crops in a year as the cultivation of oyster mushrooms is not possible during summer months. So, the production cost of each crop is Rs. 7, 500 as we are growing 9 crops in a year. Production costs in a year will be Rs. 7500 × 9 = 67, 500.
Hence, the total cost of cultivation is = Rs. 40, 300 + Rs. 67, 500 = Rs. 1, 07, 800
So, the total cost of production of oyster cultivation in a year is Rs. 1, 07, 800
Total income from Mushroom cultivation
One kilogram of oyster mushroom fetches Rs. 120 in the market averagely. So, if we consider 500-kilo grams as average yield per crop for 9 crops it will be 9 x 500 = 4, 500. In this way for selling 4, 500-kilo grams of oyster mushrooms farmers will get Rs.5, 40, 000.
4, 500 x 120 = Rs.5, 40, 000
Hence, the farmer will get gross returns of Rs. 5, 40, 000 in a year by cultivating oyster mushrooms in 2 rooms which are in size of 10 x 10 feet.
Net profit involved in oyster mushroom cultivation
It can be obtained by subtracting the total cost of production from gross returns
Rs. 5, 40, 000 – Rs. 1, 07, 800 = Rs. 4, 32, 200
Conclusion of Mushroom production unit
From reading all the above content it can be easily understood that mushroom cultivation is showering well returns the farmers. We can grow mushrooms throughout the year except during the summer month with a low cost of production. Hence, it can be said that mushroom cultivation is highly profitable and suitable for farmers with small landholdings.
