White fly, shoot grubs, grass hoppers, termites, stem borers, ear head bug and gray weevil are the major pests of pearl millet. Smut, rust, downy mildew, ergot and blast are the major diseases in this crop. All these pest and diseases should be controlled effectively by employing any possible control methods or in integrated approach i.e mechanical, biological, chemical etc. The farmer needs to incur Rs. 1,650 to protect the crop from various pest and diseases.

Usually, in pearl millet harvesting is done by cutting the ear heads first and the stalks later, for harvesting farmer need to spend Rs.600. After that produce is kept on the floor for drying and threshing. To carry out drying and threshing it costs up to Rs.500.
